Neil McCann lauds 'unstoppable' Connor Goldson after Rangers beat Ross County 4-2

Neil McCann lauded Connor Goldson on Sunday after the 28-year-old Rangers defender scored in a 4-2 win over Ross County at Victoria Park.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene [22/08/21], ex-Rangers midfielder McCann praised the Englishman’s attacking abilities.

“This is what Connor Goldson wants to do because he gets opportunities, so many times,” he said.

“Shelley [Kerr], we’ve done games for Rangers TV where we’ve seen him get real opportunities. We saw him last year score a number of goals because he’s very aggressive.

“His movement earns him the right there because he takes the defenders in, spins out into space and it was a really good header downward and then it’s unstoppable for a goalkeeper.”

Back in the goals

Ever-present Goldson scored eight times in 56 appearances last season as he made his presence known in opposition penalty areas.

Four of those strikes were in the Premiership as he helped the Gers to remain undefeated over 38 games.

He has shown a level of consistency in terms of goals since joining from Brighton in 2018.

Goldson scored three league goals in his first two seasons at Ibrox before going one better during the last campaign.

Chipping in with important goals have become a feature of his game under Steven Gerrard, and yesterday’s strike was vital to establish a degree of dominance over Ross County and put the Gers into a two-goal lead.

The game ended slightly nervier than anticipated after the home side scored twice, either side of an Alfredo Morelos goal, but Scott Arfield made sure of the three points late on.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has suggested that Light Blues stars are set to exit Ibrox as the club looks to balance their books.
