Feyenoord make enquiry to sign Rangers-linked Joey Veerman
Rangers-linked Joey Veerman has stated that his management has received an offer from Feyenoord.
The 22-year-old has been a Gers target this summer as Steven Gerrard is understood to be an admirer and also made contact with Veerman’s agent to see whether the club can bring him to the Ibrox, according to The Daily Record.
However, the midfielder in an interview with ESPN Netherlands, appeared to have his heart set on staying in the Netherlands and join Feyenoord after they’ve made initial contact to sign him.
Veerman told ESPN, as translated by The Scottish Sun, “My management have received some kind of offer. I think they have asked Heerenveen how much they want for me.
“So in the end I hear that they have not made an official offer with Heerenveen, but that they really want me.
“Yes, I would be a very happy man if I can go there (Feyenoord). It could be a good step for me. I certainly think so.”
This makes matters more complicated for us as he’s gone public about Feyenoord’s interest and has said, in no uncertain terms, that he would like to move there this summer.
It comes as a major blow for us as he would’ve been an ideal signing, especially if Glen Kamara parts ways with the club.
Veerman would be a regular starter for us and given his end-product, would help shoulder some of the goal-scoring responsibilities of the attacking players as well.
Hopefully, once we’ve sealed qualification for the Champions League group stages, we would have something substantial to offer him and tempt him to move to the Ibrox over a move to another Dutch side.
Working under a manager like Gerrard would certainly be tempting for young attacking midfielders and it remains to be seen whether Veerman will be willing to move to Scotland.
