Steven Gerrard green-lights Rangers exit for Jordan Jones amid new Ipswich interest
Ipswich have joined a club of English clubs in the race to sign Rangers forward Jordan Jones, according to Football League World.
George Edmundson has already left Ibrox to join the English League One club this week with the Tractor Boys now eyeing a double raid on the Scottish champions.
Football League World reports that Steven Gerrard has given Rangers the green light to sell Jones, 26, this summer with Sunderland, Wigan and Championship club Blackpool also keen on the ex-Black Cats loanee.
Another one for Ipswich?
If there’s one club who’s hell-bent on getting out of England’s third tier next season, it’s Ipswich.
Paul Cook has signed 10 new players already this summer and has recently wrapped up a deal to sign Edmundson for around £1million from Rangers.
Will the Suffolk club now take Jones?
We hope so.
Since joining us from Kilmarnock in 2019, Jones has been a massive letdown.
He did well for Killie during their Steve Clarke era and also made himself a regular in the Northern Ireland international team.
However, at Ibrox, he’s been far from his best.
In two years, Jones has suffered with injuries, which has been unfortunate, but even once coming back to fitness, he’s failed to impress with his performances on the pitch and his attitude off it.
Last season’s COVID breach was a massive red flag for a player who should have been getting his head down and working hard to get back into Gerrard’s squad.
Instead, he was out breaking the rules and getting himself banned before getting shipped off on loan to Sunderland, where he hardly impressed us.
Ipswich, you’re welcome to him.
We do hope Jones finds solace somewhere and it does seem as though a move back to England is on the cards for the former Middlesbrough wide-forward.
In other Rangers news, fans on social media have made their thoughts clear about Jones.
