Rangers centre-back Connor Goldson agrees new three-year contract
Rangers centre-back Connor Goldson has agreed a new three-year contract with the club following talks with sporting director Ross Wilson, according to the Daily Record.
The deal was sealed a couple of days ago, and an official announcement is expected during the new week.
Goldson, 28, will become one of the highest earners at Rangers as a result, ending rumours linking him with an exit having initially had just 12 months remaining on his old contract.
Like a new signing
The Englishman was free to enter into talks with other clubs next January and agree a pre-contract prior to his new deal, and Rangers fans would be eagerly looking forward to an official confirmation.
Goldson played in every minute of all 56 competitive games last season, impressing mightily as we secured the Scottish Premiership title and impressed in the Europa League.
The defender has played in 162 games for Steven Gerrard’s side since arriving from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2018 on a four-year deal, and he deserves the new improved term.
English sides would surely have been alerted to the fact that he could be available for a deal in six months, and Rangers have made the smart move of quickly handing him a fresh contract.
It is similar to a new signing, and even if we do not bring in a new centre-back this summer, fans would agree handing Goldson a new deal was equally as exciting as landing a new face in the department.
With the future of one of our most important players wrapped up, the Light Blues would be looking forward to their title defence and Champions League qualifiers with less to worry about, and we see the defender giving his absolute best as usual going forward.
