Porto not in advanced talks to sign Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos
Rangers are not in advanced talks to sell striker Alfredo Morelos to Porto, according to Sunday Mail journalist Scott McDermott.
Writing in the newspaper’s print edition [June 27, page 57], McDermott says that reports claiming Morelos, 25, is close to joining Porto are wide of the mark.
Portuguese news outlet A Bola has this week claimed that the deal is at an advanced stage but based on this latest update, that is not the case.
It’s taken a while to kick in this summer, perhaps due to the impact COVID has had on football and the European Championships and Copa America taking place, but finally we’re seeing reports about Morelos possibly leaving.
Don’t you just love the summer transfer window?
Fortunately, this latest update from McDermott is kind of a positive one if you want Morelos to stay at Ibrox.
Porto are a massive club that is bound to be able to offer more money and regular group-stage football in the Champions League.
Morelos is bound to be interested in joining them – why wouldn’t he be?
Thankfully it does not sound as though a deal is anywhere near close to completion.
The Portuguese media is trying to give us a different idea on that by suggesting the potential transfer is getting close to being finished but fans will have to err on the side of caution from now on with those sorts of stories.
If Morelos does leave then we’d expect to get a lot of money for the Colombia international, who’s been an absolute goal machine during his time in Glasgow.
We’ll probably see one of the big players leave this summer but will it be Morelos? We’ll have to wait and see.
In other Rangers news, this Gers midfielder has fallen out with the management at Ibrox and is now free to leave.
