Luis Suarez comments on whether he could join Steven Gerrard at Rangers

Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez has been asked whether he would love to reunite with Steven Gerrard at Rangers in July’s edition of World Soccer magazine.

The Ibrox outfit currently have a veteran hitman in their squad, but could they be looking to bring in another one?

Jermain Defoe has scored 32 goals in 72 appearances for Rangers since arriving from Bournemouth in January 2019, and manager Gerrard could be keen on adding more valuable experience to his attack ahead of next season’s Champions League campaign.

His former teammate at Liverpool Suarez is not eyeing a move to Ibrox anytime soon, though.

“I think Stevie is doing just fine without me,” the Uruguayan told World Soccer magazine when asked about potentially joining the Bears.

“I am pleased but not at all surprised to see him win the league with Rangers.

“Winning is what he does and at some point in the future I am sure he will be at Liverpool again.”

Improbable reunion

Suarez playing for Rangers would be great, but we just do not see this one really happening.

Despite being 34, the former Barcelona star is not showing any signs of slowing down.

He helped Atletico to the La Liga title last term, bagging 21 goals in 32 appearances.

Suarez has one more year left on his deal at the club, and should both parties decide to part ways next summer, he is likely to do what most South American footballers do when they get to the twilight of their careers – return home.

We could do with a season of Suarez’s massive experience at Ibrox, though, and having him wind up Celtic players in the Old Firm derbies would be fun.

The youth team strikers would learn a lot from such a legend with two European Golden Boots to his name, and fans would be delighted having such a player don the Light Blues shirt.

However, meeting the personal demands of such a player could prove problematic for us and landing him does not look realistically possible.
