Alex McLeish thrilled by Rangers links with Abdul Abdulmalik

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has been left thrilled by Rangers scouting work after links with Millwall youngster Abdul Abdulmalik.

The Daily Mail has reported that the 18-year-old could move to Ibrox on a compensation deal with his contract expiring next month.

McLeish believes it could be a “great coup” and there will be the possibility of selling him on for great money in the future.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “The boys that have grown up in your academy, you don’t see too many of them.

“The network of scouts, they must know there are special youngsters out there, and that’s a possibility with this Millwall kid.

“It could be a great coup, we have seen over the past few years some young players moving and moving for big money.”

Great coup.

Ross Wilson and his team have clearly been working overtime since the end of last season and the title win.

We have seen links with Colombian talents, with younger players clearly the target to bring to Auchenhowie.

The likes of Joe Aribo have arrived on compensation deals in the recent past and shined, with Abdulmalik possibly the next success story.

McLeish is clearly excited, and if we can have some young attacking talent through the door to work with new coach Jermain Defoe, we could be onto a real winner.
