Rangers would need to pay £500k to sign Mendes Gomes - Alan Nixon
Rangers would need to pay £500,000 to secure the signing of Morecambe winger Carlo Mendes Gomes, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist is following up on one of his former stories, insisting the Bears wanted to sign the Spanish sensation.
Gomes scored 16 goals last season, including the strike that earned his side promotion to League One in the play-off final at Wembley.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, Nixon responded to a fan with how much Morecambe would want for the Rangers target.
“Want 500 range,” he said.
“As much guaranteed as possible.”
Despite being born in Senegal, Gomes has Spanish citizenship and has shined in England over the past year.
Steven Gerrard has a list of targets that are mainly in place just in case one of his main stars decides to leave Ibrox over the summer window.
Ryan Kent is the main winger in Glasgow and that will never change, but with that comes obvious interest from the Premier League.
Selling Kent for near £20million and bringing in Gomes for less than £1million would hand the Bears severe profit, but would it bring the same results?
Most likely not, and it is likely that we will look for bigger names if any of our main men somehow leave over the summer.
Scoring 16 goals is a great season, but when you consider and compare League Two to the Scottish Premiership and the Champions League, our ambitions simply have to be higher.
