Rangers-linked Joseph Okumu open to move this summer - Report
Elfsborg defender Joseph Okumu has revealed that he is ready to take the step up in his career and is opinion to leaving this summer, amid links with Rangers.
Recently, Sport Bladet reported that the Gers have made an offer for the Kenyan international, but there’s also an interest from rivals Celtic.
The Bhoys have also tabled an initial bid for the 24-year-old as they’re looking to add to their options at the back this summer.
Three other European clubs are keen on signing the player too, with French side Lorient tabling the biggest bid of £2.5million.
Discussing his future with Fotbolldirekt.se he said, “Yes, definitely [will take the next step]. The most important thing is that I have already made an impression here.
“When I have done that, and both I and the club are satisfied. I think we have the same interests here, that I will take the next step.
“I let my agent take care of it. When there is something concrete, he will let me know, but we have not talked about this, so I am not so sure about it.”
The player has been on our radar for the last few months, and it’s encouraging to see that he’s openly stated that he’s keen on a move away from the club.
Given the number of centre-backs we have among our ranks, a couple are almost certain to walk out of the door at the Ibrox, but that’s the nature of the game.
As we’re playing in the Champions League, the calibre of players we have at the club is going to increase if we are to make it to the knockout rounds.
Okumu may not be our first choice right out of the gate, but he has the ability to work hard and possibly force his way into Steven Gerrard’s plans next season.
