Alex McLeish blown away by James Tavernier after big Rangers gesture
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish was left blown away by James Tavernier as he celebrated Rangers lifting their 55th Scottish Premiership this week.
The Bears skipper delivered a personalised magnum of Champagne to every member of the squad, including the likes of Jordan Jones.
McLeish believes it will only motivate the players to want to replicate Tavernier and his success in recent years after another unbelievable season.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It tells me he’s earning a few bob.
“It’s a lovely gesture from the captain, and then the players will always be looking up to him.
“I always tried to be inspired by him, whoever it was. Tavernier has shown a lovely bit of class in rewarding his teammates.”
What a gesture this was from Tavernier.
To even send a magnum to players such as Jones, who hardly featured and was shipped away from Glasgow after breaching COVID-19 protocols, shows how much of a team effort it has been.
This Rangers squad have been tight-knit all season, and they have had to be through some of the toughest times in all competitions.
Tavernier has been at the heart of that, and bringing through the likes of Nathan Patterson proves his class and his desire for everyone to succeed.
We can’t wait to see this gesture continued next season as tradition after another year of domination in Scotland, this time with domestic cups on top.
