Rangers keen on signing £2.5m-rated Santiago Moreno - Report
According to The Daily Telegraph, Rangers are keen on bringing America de Cali attacker Santiago Moreno to the Ibrox Stadium this summer.
The 21-year-old, who has been likened to Liverpool star Sadio Mane, is subject to interest from a host of clubs, including the Premier League duo of Leeds United and Southampton.
While playing in the Premier League could be tempting for an up-and-coming player, he wouldn’t be offered Champions League football like he would at Rangers.
The Gers’ league finish puts them in a solid position to attract players as they look to build the foundations of a sustainable team for the future.
While Moreno isn’t an eye-catching name that gets the fans excited, he’s undoubtedly a player with tremendous potential who is expected to go to the next level in the next few seasons.
He’s had eight goal contributions in 17 league games this season which has helped take us side up to fourth in the league.
Can he replace Morelos?
Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe could both be on their way out this summer and while we Fashion Sakala will be coming in, adding another attacking option would do us no harm.
Moreno is valued at 2.5m by his club, per Futbolete, so there is very little risk and plenty of reward in pursuing this signing.
Predominantly a right-winger, Moreno can play anywhere across the front three. In his most recent league game, he played on both the right and left-wing and was rewarded with a goal for his efforts.
This is how his heat map looked for that game – which is almost identical to how it is for the entire season.
For his first season, he may have to accept the role of a squad player, but if he continues to improve the way he has at America de Cali, he’s certainly going to be one of our best value-for-money signings of recent years.
He’ll also arrive with a high resale value – making it the perfect financial deal for the deal.
If we were Ross Wilson, we get our checkbook out right about now to sanction this transfer.
