Nikica Jelavic raves about Rangers-linked striker Roko Simic
Rangers would be signing a star of the future if they’re able to snap up NK Lokomotiva striker Roko Simic in the summer, according to Nikica Jelavic.
Simic, 17, has started to break into the Lokomotiva first-team this season, playing 22 times in all competitions and scoring three goals.
Former Rangers striker Jelavic, who played at Lokomotiva in Croatia last season with Simic, believes the Scottish champions would be signing a top young talent if they managed to secure the Croatia Under-17 international.
“Roko’s one of the great talents in Croatia. He’ll be a world-class striker, I haven’t seen a more talented player for a long time,” said Jelavic, as quoted by the Daily Record [print edition, May 5, page 52].
We haven’t seen anywhere about how Simic is actually linked to Rangers and who has linked him with a move to Ibrox but the Daily Record seem to suggest Jelavic is directly talking about Simic making a switch to Govan.
According to Croatian news outlet Sportske Novosti, Lokomotiva are open to selling Simic to a club outside of Croatia as long as they can have him back on loan.
That was reported last month, with the story adding that AC Milan, Torino, Verona, Anderlecht and RB Salzburg are interested in the teenage centre-forward – not Rangers.
Jelavic may be someone who has some kind of inside information, we’re not sure. But this story has come out of the blue a bit and the Daily Record seems sure that Jelavic was talking about Simic in relation to a possible future move to Ibrox.
Would we take him? Absolutely.
Jelavic has played alongside Simic at Lokomotiva and it’s not every day you see a player likened to Erling Haaland get linked with a move to the blue half of Glasgow.
