Ally McCoist reacts as Rangers announce new signing Fashion Sakala
Fashion Sakala’s arrival at Rangers has been given the thumbs up by a number of former Bears, including Ibrox legend Ally McCoist.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Light Blues announced on Twitter that Sakala, 24, has agreed to join the Scottish champions on a four-year deal upon the expiry of his contract at Oostende in Belgium.
Sakala’s move is still subject to international clearance and him earning a work permit but it seems as though the Zambian striker will be in Steven Gerrard’s squad next season.
On Instagram, Rangers shared Sakala’s first interview since agreeing to head to Glasgow in the summer transfer window.
Sakala said he’s “excited” to start his “journey” at Ibrox and that led to a number of former and current players hitting the like button.
McCoist was one of them, as was BBC Sportsound pundit Charlie Adam and Gers midfielder Joe Aribo.
We’re very excited to see what Sakala can do for Rangers next season.
He’s had a great season with Oostende in Belgium, netting 13 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions to help his side finish fifth in the regular Jupiler League table.
Oostende could be playing in the Europa League next season and they’ll have to offer massive thanks to Sakala if they do that.
As for Rangers, it remains to be seen whether Sakala can strut his stuff in Scotland as he has done in Belgium.
A campaign in the Champions League awaits for the former Spartak Moscow centre-forward, as does a bid to retain the Premiership title.
He’ll have plenty of competition for spots in Gerrard’s squad next season too if players like Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten stay.
Gerrard usually just starts one striker up front so for now, Sakala seems like a back-up option.
But he should be a very good squad member based on his numbers in Belgium.
