Report: Rangers close in on Fashion Sakala swoop

Rangers are “confident” of signing highly-rated Zambian forward Fashion Sakala on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old’s contract at Belgian club KV Oostende will expire at the end of the season, and per the Daily Record, Rangers will offer him a four-year deal to get him at the Ibrox Stadium this summer.

The report claim that Rangers are expecting the move to progress this week with a pre-contract agreement “likely after that”.

Sakala has already had talks with Rangers and is very close to agreeing on personal terms with the club.

The prospect of representing Scotland’s best team at the moment and playing in the Champions League is what led to him turning down more lucrative offers from clubs in Europe and the Middle East.

Morelos replacement?

The Zambian has enjoyed a relatively decent season, scoring 13 goals and assisting three in 28 league games.

Known to be a central striker, Sakala is capable of playing in any of the three attacking positions.

He is also an ambidextrous player and is known to work the hard yards for his side – something that will be crucial if we are to progress in the Champions League.

Former Hearts player Toby Sibbick, who was his teammate in Belgium, has tipped the 24-year-old to be a success at the Ibrox.

In an interview with the Daily Record, he said, “I’m sure Fashion would be a great addition for Rangers. Fashion has a lot of pace and is direct on the ball.

“He is quite tricky as well and is good in front of goal with the ability to finish with both feet, there’s no issue with that.

“He is powerful – not necessarily tall – but strong and quick so there’s a lot to his game.”

Alfredo Morelos is reportedly considering offers from overseas and could be tempted to take the step up this summer.

He has been linked to Premier League clubs like Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, but is likely to move to a non-English side.

While Sakala’s numbers aren’t quite as good as Morelos’, signing a versatile attacker on a fee and profiting heavily off the Colombian’s sale could be the ideal move forward as Gerrard’s looks to be building something special at Rangers.
