Stephen Craigan wowed by Jermain Defoe at HT of Rangers clash v Cove

Stephen Craigan has been wowed by the first-half performance of Rangers forward Jermain Defoe against Cove this evening.

The veteran striker fired home the opening goal at Ibrox from distance, smashing into the bottom corner with great accuracy after picking up the ball in the final third.

Craigan couldn’t believe that Cove handed Defoe so much time on the ball, and labelled his strike as “wonderful” for the Bears.

Speaking on Premier Sports after his strike, Craigan insisted that the veteran forward was born to score goals as he fired the Bears into the lead.

“Jermain Defoe, you can’t give someone of his quality that kind of space,” he said.

“There you go, he gets three touches, and like a missile fires it into the bottom corner. This guy was born to score goals.

“Once again, when the breakthrough is required he steps up to the mark, wonderful finish.”

Professional.

Defoe hasn’t featured since December, but he was running around the pitch with the sharpness of a striker that has been playing every single week.

This is an England international who has played at the very highest level with the likes of Tottenham, and as Craigan said, you never lose it when you have it.

It was an incredible finish, regardless of the lack of pressure, he still needed to get the ball out of his feet and beat the keeper from 25 yards out.

With Celtic coming in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup, it is unlikely that Defoe may start again in the near future, with Alfredo Morelos likely to be unleashed.
