We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has insisted that Rangers winning the Scottish Premiership title could persuade Alfredo Morelos to stay at Ibrox.
The Colombian has consistently been linked with an exit during his time at Ibrox, and there were strong reports claiming Lille had made a move in the summer.
McLeish believes celebrating the title and then defending it in a packed-out Ibrox next season could be all the motivation Morelos needs.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “Absolutely.
“Crowds coming back if and when they come back, he’ll be playing in front of enormous crowds every other week at Ibrox. Of course, everywhere Rangers go, they fill the stadium.
“If it’s the start of something great for Rangers and Steven Gerrard, then Morelos could be a part of that. I still believe that there are no bigger clubs than Rangers, but there are bigger leagues – that could an attraction to any one of the players.”
Morelos is loving his football right now.
Things are only going to get better for the South American, with the title, and then the potential of the Europa League and Scottish Cup on top of that this season.
As well as that, the Light Blues with then move into the qualification spots for the Champions League next season, something which hasn’t come to Ibrox since 2011.
McLeish wants Morelos to stay, and that is something he will feel when celebrating this title with the Ibrox faithful; where else would he get this love?
