Robbie Savage says Steven Gerrard is destined for Rangers greatness if he stays at the club for years to come, with the trophies set to roll in.
The Light Blues are closing in on a long-awaited Premiership success after 10 years in the title wilderness, and Gerrard has been the key inspiration.
After two years of steadying the ship the Gers boss has led the side to an unprecedented season with the club unbeaten in 31 league games and into the last 16 of the Europa League.
Speaking on William Hill’s ‘Three of the Best’ show Savage backed his former Premier League rival to achieve Gers greatness.
He said: “If Steven Gerrard stays at Rangers, they could win trophy after trophy after trophy, year after year after year, that’s how good he is.”
Savage added: “Steven Gerrard, if he stays at Rangers, he will be a huge success.”
Manager, leader…future legend?
Gerrard is already a hero in our eyes with the club on the cusp of ending our 10-year Premiership barren run.
He has ushered in a new era at Ibrox with his strong winning mentality allied to his dry humour that has left opposition figures fuming and us in stitches.
But clearly to be mentioned in the same breath as Gers legends like Walter Smith he will need to back this up with multiple trophies.
Smith won ten titles as Light Blues boss over two separate spells while also leading us to the Europa League (formerly UEFA Cup) Final in 2008.
With only Slavia Prague standing between us and a place in the quarter-finals of this season’s competition, there is a growing feeling that we can upset the odds.
If we get close then surely Gerrard will feel like there are more levels to reach and he will be tempted to stay at Ibrox until we achieve European success and lift multiple Premiership titles.
Then he really will be heralded as one of the best to do it.
