We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has claimed that Rangers defender Leon Balogun will want nothing more than to extend his contract at Ibrox after winning the Scottish Premiership.
The Nigerian international’s current deal in Glasgow expires at the end of this campaign, and Steven Gerrard has shared that there is an extension clause in place if needed.
McLeish has claimed that title 55 will show Balogun glory he has never felt before, and will make him want to stick around for more success.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It would depend on the individual himself and also the contract that he is on.
“If it’s an extension for performance, then he must have a love and feeling for the club now, if and when Rangers win the Championship, he’ll see glory that he’s never seen before.
“He will feel that wanting for him to stay.”
Balogun has played at right-back before, so it was no surprise to see him excel there against Dundee United on Sunday.
Even before that moment though, the Nigerian international had been playing superbly in the heart of the defence alongside either Conor Goldson or Filip Helander.
The defender has certainly earned another contract at Ibrox, and will only be a matter of time before he puts pen-to-paper.
Celebrations for 55 could start looking bigger than ever with lockdown restrictions slowly being lifted, we can’t wait to see Balogun in the middle of them.
