Rangers fans are blown away by the potential signing of Orange County wonderkid Francis Jacobs with the 15-year-old set to arrive in Glasgow later this year.
Earlier this week, The Athletic reported that Rangers have completed a deal for the midfielder, who is the youngest professional player in US football history. It is understood there’s a “sizeable” sell-on clause in the agreement that could benefit Orange County in the future.
Rangers forged a partnership with Orange County, who play one tier below MLS, in 2019 and Jacobs was one of three young players to have a trial with the Scottish Premiership leaders in the same year.
It remains to be seen how Jacobs will develop but there’s no doubt he’s going to find himself compared to Freddy Adu a lot.
Jacobs turned pro at the age of 14 and was a few weeks younger than Adu when he made history in US football in 2003.
For all the bluster surrounding Adu as a youngster, when he was tipped to be the next Pele, the American’s career ultimately petered out into nothing.
Let’s hope Jacobs doesn’t do the same and the youngster becomes a real cracker of a signing for the Ibrox giants.
A lot of fans are excited about the young midfielder’s arrival and here is a selection of their tweets:
We are simply incredible
