Steven Gerrard has lavished praise on Rangers coach Michael Beale as one of the key cornerstones of the club’s recent success.
The Gers boss has assembled a strong coaching set-up at Ibrox since his 2018 arrival with the likes of Gary McAllister and Jordan Milson aiding him as the club eye domestic and European glory.
But Gerrard has reserved a special mention for the work of Beale who followed him from Liverpool when he took the Light Blues reins.
Speaking on The Robbie Fowler Podcast [Episode 6, 15/02/21] Gerrard said: “Now, I haven’t had the luxury of retiring early from the game or not having been a player, in terms of having that pitch time to really become a coach who’s done so for 20 years, like Brendan Rodgers, [Jose] Mourinho or Michael Beale.
“It would take me 15 to 20 years to get as good as Michael Beale as an on-pitch coach to deliver sessions on a daily basis, so I let Mick be Mick Beale because he’s the expert and has the skillset.”
The next mission for Gerrard and Beale will be tackling Royal Antwerp in the first leg of the Europa League round-of-32 tie as the pair eye a special season ahead.
It is classic Gerrard as he does all he can to galvanise every part of the club and ensure no one goes without their due respect.
It is the selflessness and ability to shift the focus away from himself that has led us to the glorious path we currently walk on.
18 points clear at the peak of the Premiership and into the knock-out stages of the Europe League, there has been a seismic shift at the top of Scottish football and Gerrard has restored us to our rightful place.
His decisions have been brave but calculated and he has resisted the route so many others have gone down.
Many before him have chosen to bring in big names or figures that are so closely attached to the fibres of Rangers but Gerrard knew he needed people he could trust implicitly rather than opting for the popular choice.
Beale came along and most Gers players have felt the benefit of it with vast improvements evidenced on the field.
Credit to Beale and even more credit to Gerrard for piecing all the corners of the puzzle in the quest to make Rangers great again.
