Steven Gerrard has made two changes to his Rangers side as the league leaders prepare to face off against rivals Celtic.

Ryan Kent comes back into the team to face Celtic in what is a crucial Old Firm derby at Ibrox, while Leon Balogun makes a return to the starting XI.

The former Liverpool man sat out of the win over St Mirren amid concerns that he was looking a little jaded ahead of the meeting with Celtic.

Confirming the team news on Twitter, Alfredo Morelos starts alongside Kent and the in-form Kemar Roofe.

Rangers

Ianis Hagi misses out on this occasion in what was arguably the biggest call that Gerrard had to make.

The Romanian has been in great form recently, scoring or assisting in five of his last six games in a Rangers shirt.

At the back, Alan McGregor, James Tavernier, Balogun, Connor Goldson and Borna Barisic make up what has become a very familiar backline.

Filip Helander may feel unfortunate to lose his spot in the team after keeping a clean sheet against St Mirren last time out.

With no Scott Arfield in the squad, Gerrard has opted for a midfield three of Steven Davis, Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara.

Rangers

Gerrard confirmed that Arfield would miss the game, in what is an unfortunate blow for the league leaders.

While Celtic will still have three games in hand over Rangers, the Gers know that a victory today could extend their lead at the top of the table to 19 points.

Victory would be a fantastic way to see in the new year at Ibrox, with all three points surely putting one hand on the Premiership trophy.
