Marco Negri has claimed that it would be “impossible” for Rangers to lose the title should they beat Celtic next week.
The Bears first entertain St. Mirren looking to avenge their only loss this season, before welcoming the Hoops to Ibrox for the latest Old Firm.
Negri has showered praise on Steven Gerrard, claiming he has put together an “excellent” side during his time in charge of the club.
Speaking to Inside Futbol on Tuesday afternoon, Negri made the bold claim on the Scottish Premiership title race midway through this campaign.
“They are playing an excellent season and can win the title again,” he said.
“Gerrard is a good coach, he trains an excellent team. They have many players with different skills. They are a solid team, they concede few goals.
“In a few days, there will be the Old Firm derby at Ibrox, if Rangers were to defeat Celtic, then it would be almost impossible to lose the title.”
Negri scored 32 times during his 30 appearances for the Gers back in 1997-2001, but injury all-but-ended his Ibrox career.
Celtic bet the Bears to the title during his amazing first season in Glasgow but appears confident that won’t happen this time around with Gerrard at the helm.
All eyes appear to be on the Old Firm fixture next week, and it is certainly one of the most important in recent years in Scotland.
Gerrard has managed this side perfectly with his new-found squad depth, and using that effectively against St. Mirren could give his side the upper-hand against Celtic.
Victory in that would send Rangers 19 points clear, assuming both sides win this week, meaning even if the Hoops win their games-in-hand, it would stay in the double figures – we love the sound of that.
