Rangers have lost their unbeaten run in all competitions on Wednesday evening, losing 3-2 at St Mirren in the final minutes.

Steven Davis scored an equaliser in the final minutes after Jamie McGrath had put his side ahead despite Conor Goldson giving the Bears the lead.

But, after doing all that hard work they threw it away, conceding from a last-gasp corner after slack marking in the box.

Steven Gerrard decided to rest Borna Barisic, with Calvin Bassey the only fresh defender to come into the back four at the SMISA Stadium.

The youngster has impressed so far this season, but he showed his inexperience after Ryan Kent lost possession of the ball in a dangerous area to give away the penalty.

Gerrard made the choice to drag Bassey off in the second half, as St. Mirren managed to finally put an end to the 27-game unbeaten run.

Defensively, the 20-year-old hasn’t proved his strength this season, only winning 62% of his total duels according to WyScout.

It isn’t all about bombing forward as a full-back at Ibrox, you must be able to stay strong in defence when your backs are against the wall – something Bassey must learn.

Many Rangers fans have reacted to the display of Bassey, and claimed that he proved that he is a rookie and still has much to learn.

The majority were not happy with the young talent and claimed that he is far too clumsy when defending and needs to be smarter off the ball.
