‘Take my hat off’ – Chris Sutton blown away by ‘Fantastic’ Rangers & Steven Gerrard

Chris Sutton has heaped praise on Rangers this season, labelling them “fantastic” in both the league and European competitions.

The Celtic icon admitted that he was blown away by the Bears in their victory over Lech Poznan, despite them taking a massive risk with their team selection.

Steven Gerrard made seven changes in Poland, leaving out the likes of Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier, but it didn’t stop them cruising to victory.

Speaking to BT Sport on Friday evening, Sutton showered the Bears and Gerrard in praise after topping their Europa League draw.

“Rangers have been fantastic and I know we have a laugh and a joke on here but I take my hat off to the job Steven Gerrard has done this season,” he said.

“The consistency they’ve shown, massive positive making the changes. I thought it was a risk but we see the importance now, unless Rangers are really unlucky they should get a draw which they’ll really, really fancy.”

Sutton is slowly accepting that Rangers are the in-form team, not just in Scotland, but in Europe at this moment in time.

The Gers feel unstoppable at this moment in time, and it must be a nightmare for anyone connected with Celtic – not that we’re complaining.

Gerrard will have been delighted with his squad in Poland. Despite those seven changes, Rangers bettered Poznan in every area – having more shots, keeping more possession, and even making more tackles [WhoScored].

Finishing top of the group is a major positive when facing the likes of Benfica, and we cross our fingers that the draw is favourable on Monday, we more than deserve it.
