Rangers are reportedly ready to offer attacker Ryan Kent a new contract and, understandably, a lot of fans on Twitter are delighted by the news.
According to Football Insider, the Gers are planning to table a “blockbuster new deal” worth around £30,000-a-week to Kent, 24, ahead of the transfer window re-opening in just over a month’s time.
Kent has been one of the stars of the season at Ibrox, scoring six goals and supplying seven assists in 20 appearances across all competitions.
He was the subject of transfer speculation in the summer when Premier League side Leeds United tabled a bid that was rejected by manager Steven Gerrard [Sky Sports].
There were never any noises about Kent wanting to quit Ibrox and since the transfer window closes, the winger has continued to shine for the Scottish Premiership leaders.
According to stats by WyScout, Kent ranks joint-second in the Scottish Premiership for the number of shots he’s had at goal this season [40] while also ranking fifth for his percentage of shots on target [42.5%].
Unsurprisingly, Kent leads the way in the top-flight for the number of one-v-one dribbles he’s attempted. Kent has attempted 121 and second-placed Martin Boyle is miles behind with 83.
Kent is one of the best players in Scottish football and one of the best at Rangers so if the club can do something to make sure that he won’t go anywhere in January, that would be amazing because there are bound to be clubs sniffing after him by the time 2021 comes around.
And these Gers fans clearly feel that way too, with many supporters backing the club to get Kent tied down to new and improved terms.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
I'm going to get slapped for this, but just now he's our Messi, devoted to the club and fans, leaves everything on the pitch and an undeniable talent. I don't see the boy going anywhere for a long time!
