Fabrizio Romano makes intriguing Rangers transfer claim
Sky Sports transfer expert Fabrizio Romano made an intriguing Rangers transfer claim on Tuesday.
He was asked by one Gers fan how close Steven Gerrard had come to signing Sampdoria midfielder Jakub Jankto in the summer.
Romano replied saying, “So close! Rangers and Getafe asked for him.”
Jankto offers versatility and longevity
Jankto signed for Sampdoria in the summer of 2019 for a fee of £13.5m from Udinese.
He’s started six of the series A club’s seven league games this season, scoring twice and registering one assist.
We can’t see him going for less than he was bought for but Rangers haven’t given up on him yet, according to Sky Italia (via the Scottish Sun).
They claimed that a move could still be on the cards with Gers still monitoring the player.

The Czech Republic midfielder has won 27 caps but do Rangers need more bodies in midfield?
Gerrard already has Ryan Jack, Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo, Bongani Zungu and Scott Arfield to call on.
However, with 126 appearances in Serie A at just 24 years of age, Jankto is obviously a quality player.
And Jankto is a versatile player who can play as a box-to-box midfielder as well as in a more advanced position.
He’s the sort of player that Rangers fans will be delighted to be linked and he’s a midfielder who has got his peak years ahead of him.
