Ibrox View: In-form Rangers ace surely justifies Gerrard transfer claim amid Euro speculation

Rangers have had to fight hard to keep hold of a number of their key players this summer.

Whether it be Alfredo Morelos or Ryan Kent, there have been plenty of transfer sagas for the Gers to feel anxious about.

But one man who is seemingly not a cause for concern is Glen Kamara.

The Finland international has emerged as a reported target for Belgian side Anderlecht in recent days, but Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard has moved quickly to quell any rumours linking him with a potential exit by claiming that he will be offered a new contract in Glasgow in the near future.

And while that would have been good news at any time, it is made doubly pleasing by the 25-year-old’s recent form.

So far this term, Kamara’s pass completion rate has been 93.6%, as per Wyscout.

Not only is that tally mightily impressive, but it’s also 1.9% more than his average from last term.

Likewise, he has made 0.11 more interceptions per game this term than he did last time around.

And it’s the same story across the board.

Kamara’s total action success rate is 5.1% higher, he’s winning 5% more duels, and his dribble success rate is 1% higher.

Granted, these numbers aren’t earth-shattering improvements, but they show a player who is constantly improving.

And it’s reflected in his gameplay too.

In the 3-0 win over St. Johnstone earlier this season, for instance, Kamara made a staggering 117 successful passes.

If we look at the pass map above, you can see that his distribution was so dense that it’s almost as if he covered every blade of grass.

Likewise, if we look at the 13 duels that he won in the 4-0 win over Willem II, we can see that there is a good, even distribution of his action.

Kamara isn’t just contesting things in his own defensive third, but is taking the game to the opposition by pushing on into more advanced areas.

It’s a point that is only hammered home by his ball recoveries in the draw with Hibernian.

Kamara has, for the best part of this season, showed that he has all of the traits needed to be a real all-action asset for the Gers.

With that in mind, it’s little wonder that Steven Gerrard is so eager to hang onto him.
