Kris Boyd claims Gerrard has 'a lot of thinking to do' over Rangers future

Kris Boyd has claimed that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard "will have a lot of thinking to do" about his future at Ibrox over the summer.

The 39-year-old boss has failed to win any silverware in his first two seasons in Glasgow, with his side currently 13 points behind bitter rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

And Boyd has questioned whether he has still got the desire to mount another attempt at toppling the Hoops next term.

"When the season comes back, is he going to be backed? There's no doubt that there needs to be fresh investment again to progress.

"Rangers need to start challenging for titles, there is no getting away from it.

"Steven will have a lot of thinking to do over the summer. Does he want to come back and rebuild another squad or has he had enough?"

Will Gerrard still be at Ibrox next season?

You would certainly hope so.

While it's true that we haven't won any trophies under him yet, there are definite signs of progression.

This year, for example, we have seen our points per game jump from 2.00 to 2.34, amassing 67 points from 29 matches. It took Gerrard's men 33 matches to reach 66 points last term.

Factor in a run to the Europa League last 16, and in many ways this has been an improvement on last season.

But the fact remains that the trophy cabinet is bare, and Boyd isn't the only respected figure in the Scottish game to have voiced their concerns over Gerrard's short term future in Glasgow.

Speaking on talkSPORT, The Sun journalist Alan Nixon claimed that he believes the manager will leave Ibrox before the third anniversary of his appointment next June.

Whether that happens remains to be seen, but further speculation from pundits like Boyd will do little to calm supporters' nerves.
