‘Begs the question’ – Chris Sutton claims Rangers man could follow King out of Ibrox exit door

Chris Sutton has claimed that Steven Gerrard must come out and clarify whether or not he intends to stay on as Rangers manager after Dave King stepped down as chairman.

The 64-year-old was replaced at the helm on an interim basis by Douglas Park last week after five years on charge at Ibrox.

It was he who brought Gerrard to Glasgow in the first place, and Sutton believes that the change in circumstances for the Gers could cast doubt over the boss’ tenure at the club.

Speaking to BT Sport, as per the Scottish Sun, he said: “It wasn’t a time for Dave King to socially distance himself from the club.

“Rangers Football Club need leadership at this moment in these uncertain times

“And I suppose Dave King leaving begs the question: ‘What about Steven Gerrard’s future now as Rangers manager?’ Dave King was the guy who brought Steven Gerrard to the football club. Steven Gerrard trusted Dave King implicitly.

“So, maybe it’s about time that Steven Gerard came out and made a statement just to calm the waters at Rangers at this moment in time.”

What can we take from this?

Honestly, this is all a bit daft isn’t it?

Why would Gerrard leave just because King has?

The businessman may have been the one who engineered the manager’s arrival at Ibrox, but he is not the sole reason why he has stayed in the job for this long.

It was only this time a month ago that Gerrard reiterated his desire to stay in Glasgow despite a poor run of form.

Moreover, King’s departure isn’t exactly a surprise.

He announced his intention to leave last November, and all he has done is carry out his commitment.

One day Gerrard probably will leave Ibrox, that is the nature of football, but when he does go, it won’t be because the man who signed him has passed over the reigns.
