‘Guilty’ – Charlies Nicholas claims ‘constant pain’ must be sold by Rangers this summer

Charlie Nicholas has claimed that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos must be sold after becoming a “constant pain” for the Gers this season.

The Colombian was omitted from Steven Gerrard’s squad for the shock 1-0 Scottish Cup defeat to Hearts on Saturday evening after reporting back to Auchenhowie late following a personal leave of absence earlier in the week.

And Nicholas has suggested that it could be time to offload the 23-year-old at the end of the season.

Writing in a column for the print edition of the Express, as per the Daily Record, he said: “Alfredo Morelos has been a constant pain in the butt to the management and his team-mates. They’ve hung on to him for too long.

“Morelos let down Gerrard against last week, his late return from Colombia resulting in the striker being axed from the Tynecastle cup squad. He should be the first player to be shown the door this summer.

Should Rangers sell Morelos at the end of the season?

You can’t help feeling that this is going to be the debate that dominates this summer at Ibrox.

First and foremost, ordinarily, it would be considered lunacy to suggest anything of the sort.

Morelos may have suffered a dip in form since returning from the winter break, but by and large he has been nothing short of superb this season, hitting 29 goals in all competitions, as well as averaging 4.3 shots on target and 5.01 successful dribbles per game, as per Wyscout.

Right now, however, we are in uncharted territory.

This internal disciplinary action has cast fresh doubt on a player who was heavily linked with a move away in January, as per Football Insider.

At what point do you concede defeat and start looking for a more reliable talent to spearhead your silverware hopes?

As a Rangers supporter, your heart would be inclined to say not just yet, but your head could well end up telling you something a little different.
