Charlie Nicholas has claimed that Rangers must sell Alfredo Morelos in the summer transfer window if they are top stop Celtic from winning 10-in-a-row.

The ex-Hoops man has suggested that this season’s title race is already a foregone conclusion, but believes that the money the Gers could earn from selling their star man would be a vital asset in helping Steven Gerrard rebuild his squad for a title challenge next season.

The 23-year-old has hit 29 goals for the Bears this term, but Nicholas still argues that he would be relatively easy to replace.

Writing in a column for the print edition of the Daily Express, as per the Scottish Sun, he said: “This season’s title race is over – and Celtic will go on to secure the Holy Grail of 10-in-a-row unless Rangers sell Alfredo Morelos.

“Any decent striker in that Rangers team should be looking to score at least 20 goals a season, easy.

“That’s why Morelos can be replaced without too much hassle, even with a loan signing. Rangers need money and Gerrard needs to progress his team.

“I don’t see how Morelos staying improves Rangers or the mentality of the club. A lot of clubs down south would be seriously interested in him.”

Should Rangers sell Morelos?

It would be very interesting to see if Nicholas would be as laissez faire if he was talking about Celtic selling Odsonne Edouard.

The truth is that Morelos would surely command a handsome fee, and the Gers could probably find somebody who could score enough goals so that his presence wasn’t missed immensely.

But what people fail to realise is that the Colombian’s presence goes far beyond just sticking the ball in the back of the net.

So far this term, Morelos has averaged 5.8 aerial duels won, as well as 5.01 successful dribbles per match, as per Wyscout.

He is a physical presence who works his socks off for the team, and who is much more well-rounded than he is given credit for.

Finding somebody with all of those attributes, as well as his superhuman goalscoring abilities, would be nigh on impossible.

He has to stay put.
