McNamara claims Rangers would be doing 'cartwheels' for £10m deal this month
Rangers would be doing “cartwheels” if somebody paid £10 million for Borna Barisic, according to Jackie McNamara.
The Croatian full-back has emerged as a transfer target for Serie A giants Roma, but the Gers have reportedly slapped a fee in excess of £10 million on his head to ward off interest, as per the Daily Record.
The Record also suggest that Barisic has been told that he will not be sold at any price this month.
But McNamara disputes this claim.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I think if they got that for him, they’d be doing cartwheels.
“Maybe that price is to scare them off just for now because if they got that, they’d reinvest it right away as they could get a few players that they probably want.”
Would Rangers take £10 million for Barisic?
Clearly that price tag has been laid down as a deterrent for any clubs with an interest in the Croatian defender, but truth be told, it would br hard to resist that kind of money.
The full-back only arrived from NK Osijek for around £2 million 18 months ago, and such a huge profit would be vert difficult to refuse.
That being said, he is in fantastic form this season.
Barisic has already played the same amount of matches this time around as he did during the entirety of last season, but he has six more assists to his name – and we’re only in January.
He has become an integral part of this title challenge, and losing him would be a blow, of course, but with £10 million in their back pocket, the Gers could surely bring in a suitable replacement – and then some.
