Rangers defender Borna Barisic’s agent will be trying to engineer a pay rise for his player, according to Stephen Craigan.
The Croatian has been linked with a potential swoop from Italian giants Roma in recent weeks, with the Sunday Post claiming that the Serie A club are willing to “dig deep” to test the Gers’ resolve over the player.
But pundit Craigan is of the opinion that it’s all a ruse designed to earn the full-back a pay rise.
Speaking on Ladbrokes’ Social Club, he said: “Barisic has been terrific, you have to say.
“He’s really got a grip of the Scottish game, his consistency levels have been very good, his crossing ability has been terrific.
“But with two and a half years left on his contract, I’d imagine that’s your agent. You’re starting to stir things up.
“He’ll realise now he’s doing well, other players at the club will be on bigger salaries, he’ll just be trying to get a wage hike.”
Is Craigan right?
Rangers fans will certainly hope so.
Based on his current form, if Barisic wants a pay rise, just give him it.
It’s taken him a while to properly get up to speed with everything in the Scottish game, but now he’s hit his stride he’s absolutely flying.
There’s a reason why he’s drawing high praise from the likes of Andy Walker, who described him as the best left-back in Scotland, as per the Scottish Sun, and Alan Hutton, who has been blown away by his resurgence, as per Football Insider.
He probably is the best left-back in Scotland right now, and if that is the case then he should be rewarded accordingly.
Plus, it’s a whole lot better than the alternative, which is losing him this month.
