Rangers have already been quite busy in the transfer market, although perhaps not in the way that some fans will have been hoping for.
Barely a week into January, the club have already offloaded Serge Atakayi, Andy King, and Eros Grezda, and if sporting director Ross Wilson is to be believed, as per the Scottish Sun, they might not be finished just there.
And any speculation about potential outgoings will no doubt have been fuelled by manager Steven Gerrard’s take on the subject.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: “We’ve got things bubbling away in terms of players going out on-loan to play football.
“We have to be fair to players who haven’t played as much but are training well, being professional and doing everything.
“But we’re just overcrowded in terms of numbers, so we’ll be respectful and try and get them the right move so they can go and play football.
“I think, come the back end of January, you’ll probably see three or four go the other way.
“And, depending what happens in terms of those three or four, will depend on maybe add one.”
While his comments on potential outgoings are hardly ground-breaking, it’s that subtle suggestion of one player coming in that will no doubt get supporters salivating.
Obviously, it’s a very vague statement, and there are no clues as to who it might be. There’s no saying it will even happen at all.
But the fact that the Gers are considering it shows that they still have one eye on expansion and developing the best squad in Scotland.
Perhaps they don’t need another body through the door, but judging by these comments, you can bet that if and when they do make their move, Gerrard will be absolutely certain that he is swooping for the right man.
