'As it should be' - These Rangers fans are 'buzzing' over Weds announcement

Rangers arguably faced their toughest month of the Scottish Premiership season in December.

Of course, football is not played on paper, and the second half of the campaign promises all kinds of unimaginable twists and turns before it reaches its conclusion, but the fixtures that the Gers had to deal with over the Christmas period were a real test.

Clashes against Hearts, Aberdeen, Motherwell, Hibernian, and Kilmarnock all came and went, before that year-ending trip to Parkhead on December 29th.

Granted, some games were easier than others, but having played five of the current top seven – with Rangers being a sixth member of that cohort – and dropping just two points in a 2-2 draw with Aberdeen is a seriously impressive record.

And so, it is perhaps little surprise that Steven Gerrard was named as the Premiership’s manager of the month for December, as Rangers announced via their official Twitter on Wednesday.

The accolade is thoroughly deserved, and while you can’t put a manager of the month gong in the trophy cabinet, you would have to say that it’s a fair reflection on the progress that is being made at Ibrox under Gerrard’s tutelage.

So far, during his tenure as boss he has averaged 2.07 points per game, as per Transfermarkt.

Compare that to Graeme Murty’s 1.9, or Pedro Caixinha’s 1.81, and it’s very clear that the Bears are moving in the right direction.

Success is made up of incremental improvements, not drastic leaps, and while critics will dismiss this as nothing to write home about, the reality is that Gerrard has won this award because his side are winning matches, and if his side win enough matches, then they will win silverware too.
