Chris Sutton singles out Rangers 27-year-old who must 'Show up' v Celtic
Rangers go into Sunday’s Old Firm derby against Celtic knowing that a win would put them in the driving seat for the title.
Steven Gerrard’s men would be two points behind their rivals with a win but would have a game in hand down the line to regain the lead in the Scottish Premiership.
The Light Blues will need a similar performance to the one in the Betfred Cup final where despite dominating they lost 1-0.
Chris Sutton has singled out defender Connor Goldson who needs to turn up for Rangers, claiming that he can’t be punished by the likes of Odsonne Edouard like he has been previously.
“As far as I see it, it’s Connor Goldson who needs to show up if the Ibrox side are going to win a game they simply can’t afford to lose,” he wrote in the Daily Record.
“Odsonne Edouard has been too hot for him to handle since he’s been at Rangers. The Celtic striker’s movement, pace and finishing ability has terrorised the centre-back and various partners he’s had since the start of last season.
“Edouard punished Goldson’s mistake for the opening goal when the teams first met in the Premiership this term. The stopper’s lazy pass out from the back was picked off by Mikey Johnston and in a flash, the striker was in behind him and away to score.”
Sutton is right, players like Alfredo Morelos will always be key, but trying to outscore Celtic would be a dangerous game for the Gers to play.
The best way to keep Celtic quiet would be to blunt their attack, and the 27-year-old will need to be at the top of his game to avoid previous mistakes which have seen the likes of Edouard profit in recent times.
