Alex Rae raves about Rangers ace who is on 'another level'
Joe Aribo’s goal for Rangers on Friday evening will live long in the memory.
The young playmaker started and then emphatically finished a move that all but killed the game against Hibernian off with just eight minutes on the clock.
It was a sublime, precise, curled effort into the top bracket, and it really acted as a signifier of what the summer arrival is capable of producing when he is in the mood.
And his performance more than caught the eye of former Ibrox favourite Alex Rae, who was quick to sing his praises on the latest edition of Ladbrokes’ Social Club.
The pundit said: “The one key area [for Rangers] was always the the right berth of that front three, and he’s actually started to go to another level now.
“He started well at Rangers, he dipped a bit, but he’s now starting to thrive in there because he can go anywhere.
“I think he’s cementing that place.”
It’s hard to argue with Rae too much.
It’s true that Aribo’s form hit the buffers a little after an electric start that saw him strike three times in five matches from the centre of midfield in Europa League qualifying.
But he really looks to have turned things around of late, and his outing against Hibernian was genuinely impressive.
Not only did he score that absolute stunner, but he also looked lively throughout, and it’s clear just from watching him that his natural intelligence and perception of the game puts him head and shoulders above most players he will encounter in the Premiership.
The key now is for him to keep that form up, but if he can maintain his consistency then there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be in that starting XI for a very long time to come.
