'Phenomenal' - Steven Thompson blown away by Rangers ace in 3-0 win v Hibs

Joe Aribo kept his impressive run of form going for Rangers on Friday evening with a stunning strike against Hibernian at Easter Road.

The midfielder scored the second in a 3-0 win over Hibs to keep Celtic within five points of Steven Gerrard’s men at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with the Gers still yet to play their game in hand.

And it’s fair to say that Aribo caught the eye of Sportscene presenter Steven Thompson.

Speaking on the show on Sunday, the ex-Rangers man said: “That is a phenomenal goal though, is it not?”

To be fair, he isn’t wrong.

Aribo has so much to do when he runs onto the ball, but even prior to that, it is his hard work that creates the chance in the first place.

His interplay with Ryan Jack is sharp and intelligent, while his refusal to rest on his laurels after a good pass out wide means that he is able to make that late run into the box without being detected by any Hibs defenders.

Really though, it’s the finish that deserves the praise.

Aribo opens his body out, judges the path of the ball without breaking his stride, and arrows a superb side foot right into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper absolutely no chance.

Moments of quality like this are becoming more and more common from the Nigerian international, and it’s hard no to get excited about how much potential he is showing.
