This year’s title race promises to be the closest in a long, long time.
The gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership table may be five points, but Rangers have a game in hand on bitter rivals Celtic, with an Old Firm approaching rapidly on the horizon.
And the key for Steven Gerrard’s men will be to keep themselves firmly focussed on their own task at hand, rather than allowing themselves to be distracted by anybody else.
And that’s why many Gers will surely be delighted to hear the latest comments from Joe Aribo.
The young midfielder has been quick to point out just how singleminded he and his teammates are at the moment, and it stands as a rallying cry to a squad who could achieve great things under Steven Gerrard.
As quoted by the Daily Record, he said: “We don’t need to look at what anyone else is saying because they’re not on the pitch.
“We are not really watching them [Celtic] too much. We just know we have to win every single game. If we’re doing that then we’re doing the right thing. We don’t really have to look at what’s going on over there.
“We know we have to win regardless so I wouldn’t say there is any added pressure. People are going to say things and try to get into our heads. We just have to stay focused.”
Of course, these things are always easier said than done, and whereas Celtic’s current squad are serial winners, we are very much playing catch up in that regard.
But at the very least, it shows that the mentality in the dressing room is in the best place possible right now, going into an Old Firm that could define both clubs’ seasons.
Win it, and we’re looking at a two point gap with a game in hand. Lose, and the alternative is altogether more unthinkable.
