Reliable journo issues contract update on Rangers starlet who Gerrard personally 'rates'
Rangers have been stung before when it comes to losing young players for a pittance.
The Gers had to wave goodbye to highly-rated midfielder Billy Gilmour when he left for Chelsea not too long ago, and if reports from Football Insider are to be believed, then they could face a real battle to hold onto precocious defender Leon King too.
According to The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell, there could be struggles further down the line too.
Writing in a Q&A for the outlet, the reporter revealed that young winger Kai Kennedy is no closer to putting pen to paper on a new deal at Ibrox either.
Campbell said: “I’ve not heard anything suggesting that he is closer to signing I’m afraid.
“[Steven] Gerrard rates him though and heaped praise on him after he was named as the 19th man against Hamilton.
“He’s got a big future at Rangers if they can get him tied down.”
Kennedy really has the potential to be a special player, and the sooner the Light Blues can get him to commit to a long term deal the better.
The 17-year-old is already making waves at Ibrox, having caught Steven Gerrard’s eye, and for him to be in and around the senior setup on a match day, as he was at the back end of November, surely shows that he is being readied for a more important role further down the line.
With youth international experience to his name already, and with three assists in four matches in the UEFA Youth League this season, as per Transfermarkt, he looks like a real prospect.
Losing another one would be a galling blow for the Gers.
