'Very tough' - Former Braga star comments on Rangers tie, heaps praise on 'fervent' fans

Rangers found out their opponents for the next stage of the Europa League on Monday. It will be another Portuguese side in Braga.

The Gers managed to take four points against Porto in the group stage, and a similar set of results against Braga would see them cruise through the first-knockout round.

Alfredo Morelos was one of the main reasons Rangers made it through their tricky Europa League group. The Colombian set a European record in doing so, scoring 14 goals – the most goals in the competition before Christmas.

Former Braga star, Alan, has commented on the upcoming round of 32 tie in the Europa League, claiming that the Portuguese side will need to be fully prepared.

“We know the value of Rangers, it’s a history of European football, a team with fervent fans and a very tough opponent,” he told the Daily Record.

“We are excited, very honoured and eager to continue the great European campaign we have been doing.

“They will certainly be two great games. We saw the value of Rangers for the great games they played against FC Porto.”

The Brazilian featured against the Gers on numerous occasions during his playing career, so for him to make his old side aware of the passionate Ibrox crowd made total sense.

Many teams have arrived at Ibrox and struggled before, so for Alan to warn his former side makes total sense. It is easy to crumble under the pressure, especially in a European tie and that is something Gerrard and his side must use to their advantage in the home leg.
