Durham: Celtic cheated to win the League Cup final
talkSPORT host Adrian Durham has accused Celtic of cheating to win the League Cup final against Rangers.
Celtic won the cup final 1-0 on Sunday, despite Rangers absolutely dominating the game.
Goalkeeper Fraser Forster was their man of the match and he single-handedly saved Celtic, including a penalty save from Alfredo Morelos.
Talking on Drive on talkSPORT (Monday, 5pm), Durham ripped into Celtic, saying, “Fraser Forster was man of the match, he was sensational.
“Everything that was kicked at him, every ball that was near him he saved it. Even if [James] Tavernier had taken the penalty Forster would probably have saved it – he was that good.
“Now Fraser Forster is on £70,000 a week. Southampton are paying more than half of that wage. Is it really fair that he’s just kept goal for Celtic? Southampton have just won the cup for Celtic!
“Isn’t that cheating? That’s blatant cheating! Isn’t it? They can’t afford to pay his wages so what’s he doing in the team?
“Southampton deserve to have that trophy in their trophy cabinet for six months of the next 12. They do, it’s an absolute disgrace.
“Southampton are funding Celtic’s season. Southampton are funding Celtic’s title bid.”
Celtic sold Forster to Southampton in 2014 for over £11m and have now signed him back on loan for the rest of the season.
We like the sentiment from Durham but we’re not entirely sure he completely understands the loan system.
One thing is fair though, without Forster Celtic would have lost the cup final and Steven Gerrard would have his first silverware of the season.
