Former Liverpool and England striker Emile Heskey has heaped praise on Steven Gerrard and said the Rangers manager is the “ready-made replacement” for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
Many pundits questioned the wisdom of Rangers appointing Gerrard in his first senior managerial role. His previous experience had been in the Liverpool youth set-up.
However, few are doubting him now, with his side on top of the league and undoubtedly in a much, much better position than when he took over.
Heskey believes that Gerrard will take over at Anfield, in one of the biggest jobs in English football, and follow in the footsteps of Frank Lampard, who took over at Chelsea after just one season with Derby County.
Talking to the Scottish Sun, Heskey said, “I think Gerrard is a ready-made replacement for Klopp.
“Someone who knows the club inside out, is loved by the fans and would be loved by the players. And is someone who is probably being groomed to be that guy to take over.”
No one at Ibrox wants to see Gerrard go, but everyone knows that when the Liverpool job comes calling, the manager will probably jump at the chance.
The timeline is in Rangers’ favour at the moment. Klopp is under contract at Anfield until 2022 and it’s hard to see him leaving before that time at the moment.
That gives Rangers two more seasons after this one, by which time the Gerrard revolution should have been completed with Rangers (hopefully) back on top of the Premiership and playing Champions League football.
